FC Midtjylland drew with Viborg and suffered a major setback in the two-horse race for the Danish title...
A costly goalkeeping error by FC Midtjylland keeper Elias Olafsson in the 88th minute allowed Viborg to snatch a 3-3 draw away from home. The result saw Midtjylland lose significant ground in their tight title battle with AGF.
The two rivals produced an extremely entertaining first half, packed with four goals, and the drama continued right into the final ten minutes of the second half.
Ten minutes from time, central defender Martin Erlic appeared to have secured victory for FC Midtjylland (FCM), but the eventful match still had one final twist to come.
In the last minute of regular time, a costly error by goalkeeper Elias Olafsson proved decisive for the home side. Unable to hold on to a long-range shot, he spilled the ball, allowing Viborg’s Dorian Hanza an easy tap-in.
With only two rounds left to play, AGF maintained their lead at the top of the Danish Superliga after FC Midtjylland could only manage a 3-3 draw against Viborg FF in a thrilling local derby on Monday evening at the MCH Arena.
However, it was the visitors who drew first blood in the 33rd minute. Asker Beck intercepted a loose pass from Ousmane Diao, drove into the Midtjylland box, and calmly slotted the ball into the net to give Viborg the lead.
Viborg’s celebrations were short-lived, as Chilean striker Dario Osorio produced a moment of magic. He turned and twisted his way into the box before curling a clinical finish into the far bottom corner to restore parity for FC Midtjylland.
In the final minute of the first half, Beck doubled his tally for the evening by pouncing on a sloppy error in FC Midtjylland’s build-up play to restore Viborg’s lead. However, the home side had enough time to equalise before the break when a shot from Pedro Bravo took a deflection off Daniel Anyembe and flew into the Viborg net.

In the second half, FC Midtjylland struggled to regain full control of the match but still managed to take the lead in the closing stages. A long throw-in was flicked on, allowing central defender Martin Erlic to steer the ball past Viborg goalkeeper Lucas Lund.
However, with just one minute remaning, goalkeeper Elias Olafsson failed to hold on to a powerful long-range drive from Adam Kleis-Kristoffersen. The loose ball fell kindly for Dorian Hanza, who tapped it home to level the score and earn Viborg a hard-fought point.
