Delhi Capitals pulled off their biggest successful chase in IPL history, beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets behind a 110-run opening stand from Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul that came off 57 balls.
The openers set up the win after three losses in a row, chasing down Rajasthan’s 225-6. Riyan Parag had powered the Royals total with 90 off 50 balls.
Delhi’s prior best chase was 210 against Lucknow Super Giants in 2025. “It matters to get the win,” said player of the match KL Rahul, who led the side with 75 from 40 balls.
“Results haven't gone our way but we had some honest conversations. We needed to get sharper in certain areas.
“We got this win and are hoping to string together some more.”
Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka made his first IPL fifty, scoring 62 from 33 balls. KL Rahul added 75 for his third half-century of the season, to go with an unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings.
Nitish Rana contributed 33, but Rajasthan mishandled the closing overs by keeping Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger back.
Impact substitute Tushar Deshpande conceded 16 in the penultimate over, and Tristan Stubbs 18_ and Ashutosh Sharma 25_ saw Delhi home with five balls remaining.
The win lifted Delhi to sixth with four victories from nine games. Rajasthan stayed fourth on 12 points from 10 matches, missing a chance to go top and now trailing Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who also have 10 points, on net run rate.
“My job is to get two points so my score and innings don't really matter if we lose the game,” said Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag.
Earlier, the experienced duo of Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Starc struck early to remove both Rajasthan openers cheaply.
Teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was bowled by Jamieson for 4, while Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught and bowled by Starc for 6.
Parag, who hit five sixes in his 90, and Dhruv Jurel with 42 rebuilt the innings before Starc returned to take two more wickets and leave the hosts 168-5.
The Australian quick bowled 12 dot balls across his four overs and ended with 3-40.
South Africa’s Donovan Ferreira then smashed sixes, plundering 20 off Kuldeep Yadav’s 18th over to finish unbeaten on 47 off 14 balls.
