| Ipswich lock in Akpom deal after QPR win seals promotion |
The 30-year-old striker’s move was triggered by Ipswich’s 3-0 win over QPR, which secured a second-place Championship finish ahead of Millwall and Southampton.
Akpom departs Ajax after a quiet loan spell at Ipswich, where he scored twice in 29 Championship appearances, and now heads to the Premier League with the club on a permanent basis...
Chuba Akpom has completed a permanent switch to Ipswich Town following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
The striker initially arrived from Ajax on loan with a clause allowing Ipswich to sign him outright if they secured top-flight status. Reports indicate Ajax will receive £8 million, around €9.2 million, as part of the deal.
Ipswich confirmed their return to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, finishing second in the Championship ahead of Millwall and Southampton.
Despite making 29 Championship appearances, Akpom managed only two goals and no assists for Ipswich. The 30-year-old started just seven matches, with his final start and only recent goal coming in the 3-0 victory over Oxford United on New Year’s Day. Across Ipswich’s last 15 fixtures he featured five times for a total of 85 minutes, spending the other 10 games unused on the bench.
Ajax and Ipswich Town FC have reached an agreement on the transfer of Chuba Akpom. The striker joined the English club on loan from Ajax last season, with an option to buy included in the agreement.

We wish you all the best, Chuba! 🫶
Akpom moved to Ajax from Middlesbrough in 2023 for a reported €12.3 million but never really settled in Amsterdam as the club dealt with significant internal turmoil. He leaves with 23 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions.
