Rayo Snatch Point as Alemao Denies Sociedad in La Liga Thriller

Real Sociedad Vs Rayo Vallecano
Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad share six goals in chaotic draw

Alemao’s stoppage-time header gives Rayo Vallecano 3-3 draw vs Real Sociedad. Hosts stay five points clear of drop as La Real’s winless run continues.

Rayo Vallecano hit back late to earn 3-3 LaLiga draw in six-goal thriller with Real Sociedad. La Real now winless in six LaLiga meetings with Rayo...

Alemao headed in during the ninth minute of stoppage time to dramatically earn Rayo Vallecano a deserved point in a back-and-forth 3-3 LaLiga draw at Estadio de Vallecas, extending their unbeaten home league run to seven matches (W4, D3).

Both clubs had focused more on cup competitions than LaLiga this season, with UEFA Conference League semi-finalists Rayo hosting the newly crowned Copa del Rey champions.

That trophy had already guaranteed Europa League football for La Real next season, but Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team showed no shortage of motivation after starting brightly.

Ander Barrenetxea carved out an early chance, dribbling into the Rayo box before Dani Cardenas pushed his shot away.

Duje Caleta-Car and Takefuso Kubo both had chances in a lively first 15 minutes.

The visitors struck first through a piece of brilliance from Mikel Oyarzabal, who collected Barrenetxea’s pass, glided past several Rayo defenders, and slotted his shot into the bottom corner.

Rayo thought they hit back instantly when Carlos Martin tapped in from close range, but Andrei Ratiu was penalised for handball in the build-up to rule it out.

They did get a deserved equaliser with a well-worked goal, as Sergio Camello used excellent close control to weave through the Sociedad defence before firing a left-footed finish past Alex Remiro.

Camello missed a clear chance to put Rayo ahead soon after the break, but La Real looked more likely to retake the lead as the half progressed.

A dramatic finale looked on when Florian Lejeune tapped in from close range to cut the deficit, before Alemao headed home deep into added time to earn the hosts a point.

The result extends Sociedad’s winless run in LaLiga meetings to six games. La Real have now won just one of their last five top-flight matches. For Inigo Perez’s side, the late leveller offers some vindication, stretching the gap to the bottom three to five points.
