The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Saturday to take Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoff series.
Philly limited Pittsburgh to just 17 shots on goal, including only five in each of the first and second periods. It was the Flyers’ first playoff win since 2020.
Teams that win Game 1 of a first-round series advance 68% of the time.
After a scoreless first period, Jamie Drysdale gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead midway through the second with a wrist shot through the five-hole.
But Pittsburgh responded with less than five minutes left in the period.

Longtime Penguin and future Hall of Famer Evgeni Malkin got Pittsburgh on the board, tying it 1-1 heading into the second intermission.
Heading into the third, both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Flyers were outshooting the Penguins 16-10.

Just like Drysdale in the second, teammate Travis Sanheim scored right at the halfway mark of the third to put Philly up 2-1.
The 19-year-old became the fifth teenager ever to score an eventual game-winning goal in his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut.
Martone rippeda snipe in off the post to put the Flyers up 3-1, and that was enough to seal the Game 1 win.
Pittsburgh didn’t let up late, piling on pressure in the waning minutes of the third.
After Sanheim and Sidney Crosby were both called for two-minute minors for trading cross-checks and slashes, Pittsburgh’s Bryan Rust scored on the power play with the empty net to cut it to 3-2.
Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar, who hadn’t seen much action thanks to Philly’s strong defense, made a last-second save at the doorstep to seal the win.
Philly’s Christian Dvorak posted the game’s best player rating at 7.6.
