Leicester City's six-point deduction for breaching financial rules confirmed, increasing relegation risk...

Leicester City's relegation battle just got tougher. The Championship side has lost its appeal against a six-point deduction, dealing a significant blow to their chances of survival. The club is now 22nd in the table, just one point away from safety, and faces the daunting prospect of dropping to League One unless they can turn their season around.

The six-point deduction was imposed earlier this year for breaches of the English Football League's (EFL) Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Leicester City had argued that the penalty was disproportionate, but an independent appeal board upheld the decision. With five games left to play, the Midlands club will need a strong finish to avoid relegation.

Leicester City is going through a tough time. They won the Premier League a decade ago against all odds, but got relegated last season. Earlier this year, they were docked six points for breaching English Football League profitability and sustainability rules.

The points deduction has pushed them into a relegation battle, with the club currently 22nd in the Championship table. Leicester had appealed the decision, but an independent appeal board upheld the penalty. The club is now focusing on their remaining games to avoid dropping to League One.

“An independent Commission’s decision to ‌recommend a six-point deduction on Leicester City Football Club this season has been upheld by an independent Appeal Board,” the Premier League, which initiated the original investigation, said in a statement.

Leicester City has accepted the ruling after their appeal against a six-point deduction was rejected. The club, currently 22nd in the Championship, will now focus on their remaining five games to avoid relegation to League One. The points deduction was imposed for breaches of the English Football League's profitability and sustainability rules.

“With the matter now at an end and five games of ‌the season remaining, everyone at the Club is fully focused on the ‌matches in front of us and on shaping the outcome of our season through our results on the pitch,” the club said.

Leicester City is set to host Swansea City on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 14:00 UTC at King Power Stadium. This match is part of the Championship league, and Leicester City is currently ranked 21st, while Swansea City is 15th.
