Konnor Griffin, the 19-year-old MLB top prospect, made a splash in his Pirates debut, recording his first career hit - a two-strike RBI double off Orioles pitcher Kyle Bradish, putting the Pirates up 1-0 in the second inning.

Griffin, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, was called up by the Pirates and started at shortstop, making him the first teenage position player in the majors since Juan Soto in 2018. He's expected to make an instant impact, given his impressive minor league stats: .333 average, 21 home runs, and 65 stolen bases in 2025.

He would score from second shortly after on a Jared Triolo single to make it 2-0.

He's making history – the youngest shortstop to debut in the big leagues since Alex Rodriguez (18).

The top prospect recently signed a massive 9-year, $140 million deal after getting called up on Thursday. In 5 games with Triple-A this season, Griffin batted .438 (7-16) with 3 doubles, 1 RBI, and 3 stolen bases.

His 2025 performance in the minors is what catapulted him to the top of the prospect list.

Last season, Griffin crushed it in the minors – 122 games across Single-A, High-A, and Double-A, with a .333 batting average and .941 OPS. He hit 21 homers, drove in 94 runs, and swiped 65 bases on 78 attempts. Oh, and he won the 2025 Minor League Gold Glove Award too.

Griffin's Spring Training wasn't exactly stellar – he hit .171 (7-for-41) with 4 homers, 9 RBI, 2 walks, 13 strikeouts, and 1 steal.

If Griffin sticks with the team all season, the Pirates will get a draft pick via the Prospect Promotion Incentive.
