Ottawa generated little offense in the first period, and Carolina failed to convert on three power plays that followed Stankoven’s goal.
In the second period, Ottawa had a prime chance with a 5-on-3 for 1:28 after Carolina took penalties for too many men and a Jalen Chatfield hook.
The Senators couldn’t create anything with the two-man advantage, drawing boos from the home fans.
