Elena Rybakina won seven straight games to beat Karolina Muchova 7-5, 6-1 and lift the Stuttgart title, her second Porsche prize...
Australian Open winner Elena Rybakina secured her second title of the season on Sunday, beating Karolina Muchova 7-5, 6-1 to win the WTA Stuttgart indoor clay event.
The 26-year-old top seed took a tight first set after 53 minutes, breaking the seventh-seeded Czech twice.
Rybakina didn’t look back in the second set. She raced to a 5-0 lead as Muchova’s serve faltered, closing out the match in 1 hour 18 minutes to claim the 13th title of her career.
Rybakina, runner-up at Indian Wells last month, reclaimed the title she first won two years ago. The win earns her a second Porsche sports car, the prize given to the Stuttgart champion.
“I was trying to read her serve, and in the beginning everything worked,” Rybakina said.
“Then she started to serve a bit better, harder, and even knowing where the ball is coming and it was kind of on the racquet, but I was missing the shots. So it went pretty tight in the first set.”

“In the second, I was just trying to be more solid. I think the return improved. I was managing to see where she was gonna serve.”
Muchova led Rybakina 2-1 in their head-to-head coming into the final, after beating her on hard court in Brisbane in January.

Rybakina had a smooth week in Stuttgart, dropping just one set. She beat her toughest test, world No. 6 Mirra Andreeva, 7-5, 6-1 in Saturday’s semifinal.
The 29-year-old Muchova beat French Open champion Coco Gauff in three sets in the quarterfinals, but she couldn’t match two-time Grand Slam winner Rybakina in the final.
Rybakina controlled the start of the first set, though the former Wimbledon champion needed three set points on Muchova’s serve to close it out.
She then cruised from there, reeling off seven straight games across the end of the first set and into the second.
The 2024 champion has now won multiple titles at the same event for the first time in her career. It’s also her fifth career title on clay as she builds toward next month’s French Open.
Muchova, runner-up at Roland Garros in 2023, was playing in her first WTA 500 final.
“It was a really good week for me,” Muchova said.
“I beat players I have never beaten before. I had some tough battles. Of course, it could have been a little better but I have to give credit to Elena. I think she played really well, really fast. I was probably a little bit tired from the last two matches that I played here, but all credit to her.”
