Hamstring injury ends Yamal’s season with Barca, World Cup return expected. Yamal to miss el clasico, final six Barca games...

Barcelona confirmed Thursday that teenage star Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury. He’s expected to recover in time for Spain’s World Cup campaign.

The 18-year-old scored the winner in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo but limped off before halftime. He was replaced by Sweden international Roony Bardghji.

In a statement published on social media, the Catalan club said: “The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle).

“The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.”

With Barcelona nine points clear in LaLiga and out of all other competitions, the club won’t rush Yamal back. A World Cup summer is also a factor.

Yamal has been electric this season, recording 16 goals and 11 assists in LaLiga plus six more goals in the Champions League.

Injuries have been rare for Yamal this season. Two groin issues sidelined him for 23 days total, but he’s still played 51 games for club and country.

He’ll miss Barcelona’s final six games, including the May 10 Clasico against Real Madrid at Camp Nou - a match that could seal the LaLiga title.

He was central to Spain’s EURO 2024 win as a 16-year-old, the tournament that turned him into a global name.

Alongside Nico Williams, he was lethal on the wing. Luis de la Fuente’s side claimed their first major trophy since EURO 2012, beating England 2-1 in the final.

At just 18, Yamal already has 25 Spain caps and will be a key figure for La Roja this summer.

Spain open their 48-team World Cup campaign June 15 against Cape Verde in Atlanta, before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group H.
