Torino got off to a winning start under new head coach Roberto D’Aversa, beating Lazio 2-0 at home. Giovanni Simeone scored the vital breakthrough, his effort sneaking past the line to give Torino the lead.

D’Aversa's side were six points clear of the relegation zone after the win. Datro Zapata was also on target, helping seal the victory for Torino.

With momentum behind them, the Maroons almost doubled their advantage just a few minutes later through the inspired Simeone, but his fierce shot was palmed away by Ivan Provedel to Lazio’s relief.

The visitors posed very little attacking threat in the first half in which the Biancocelesti’s most promising chance to get on the scoresheet arrived after 37 minutes played, when Reda Belahyane’s rasping shot was blocked a few yards in front of the goal line.

Torino came out strong after halftime and scored their second goal in the 53rd minute. Rafa Obrador's excellent delivery found Duvan Zapata, who headed it home to beat Provedel and double Torino's lead.

The goal came from a great team effort, with Obrador's delivery setting up Zapata's decisive header.

The game slowed down after Torino's second goal, with the hosts comfortably holding on to their lead. They put in a solid defensive display, highlighted by Enzo Ebosse's crucial block that denied Lazio a potential lifeline.

Torino looked comfortable in the remaining minutes, never really threatened by Lazio's attacks.

Lazio's struggles away from home were evident, with only eight goals scored from 14 league trips this season. As time ran out, Alberto Paleari made a crucial save to deny Alessio Romagnoli's late effort, sealing the win for Torino.

The save proved decisive, ensuring Torino's 2-0 victory and three vital points.

Torino's win ended their four-game winless streak in all competitions, boosting them to 14th in Serie A. Lazio, meanwhile, stays 10th but shifts focus to the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta on Wednesday.
