Sassuolo hold Juventus to 1-1 draw, Juve miss chance to go 4th in Serie A...

Juventus dropped points at home, settling for a 1-1 draw against Sassuolo, with Manuel Locatelli missing a late penalty. This was a big miss for Juve, who were looking to go fourth in Serie A.

Juve had been on a roll at the Allianz Stadium, with five wins from seven games, but Sassuolo's resilient away form (2 wins, 3 draws, 4 losses since Nov) proved too tough to overcome. Now, they're stuck in the mix, and the battle for fourth place continues.

The hosts made a strong start, breaking the deadlock in the opening quarter-hour. Mattia Perin's long kick found Francisco Conceicao, who led the counter down the right and cut inside, laying off for Kenan Yildiz to score with a first-time finish into the bottom corner.

Yildız kept the pressure on, forcing Arijanet Muric into a stop, and Pinamonti missed a chance to level, heading a corner over the bar.

Juventus kept pushing, with Pierre Kalulu having a good chance to double their lead before halftime, but his shot went off target after some neat play from Conceicao.

The Neroverdi needed a response after an underwhelming first-half showing, and they got just that seven minutes after the restart.

They’d created little to this point, but sharp movement from Pinamonti saw him get in front of Gleison Bremer to poke home Domenico Berardi’s low ball into the box, levelling the game.

Juventus pushed hard to regain the lead, with Jeremie Boga testing Muric's skills with a back-post header, thanks to a great pass from Conceicao. Despite their efforts, Sassuolo's goalkeeper Muric made some impressive saves, including a crucial penalty save from Locatelli, securing a 1-1 draw for Sassuolo.

And four minutes from time, Jay Idzes was penalised for handling in the area, giving Locatelli the chance to win the game. However, Muric guessed the right way, holding a rather tame effort to ultimately deny Juventus what would have been a third straight league win.

A point isn’t enough to see Luciano Spalletti’s men climb above Como, who remain ahead on H2Hs, having yet to play this weekend.

Sassuolo's point was a moral boost, but their away form has been brutal - 1 win in 9 games against top-half teams. That's a big reason they're stuck in 11th, and a Europa spot looks tough now.
