Raphinha Out: Barcelona Star Misses Champions League Quarter-Final

Barca hit by Raphinha injury

Barcelona winger Raphinha suffers hamstring injury, misses Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid and several La Liga games.

“The player is returning to Barcelona to begin the appropriate treatment...”

Raphinha won't be featuring in Barcelona's Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid in April due to a hamstring injury he picked up while playing for Brazil in their friendly loss to France.

The Brazilian winger suffered the injury during Brazil's 2-1 defeat by France in the United States on Thursday, and Barcelona has confirmed he'll be out for around five weeks, missing key games against Atletico Madrid, Espanyol, Celta Vigo, and Getafe.

The Brazilian Football Confederation reported that Raphinha and Roma full-back Wesley “felt pain in their right hamstrings during the match against France,” raising concerns about their availability.

“On Friday, the players underwent tests that confirmed muscular injuries,” the CBF added.

Barca confirmed Raphinha's hamstring injury will keep him out for around five weeks.

“The player is returning to Barcelona to begin the appropriate treatment. The estimated recovery time is five weeks,” Barcelona said.

Raphinha's a big loss for Barcelona, missing both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid – that's April 8 at home and April 14 away.

The Brazilian winger's injury also affects Barcelona's La Liga schedule, with games against Espanyol, Celta Vigo, and Getafe up next. He's scored 19 goals this season, so his absence is huge.

Barcelona is optimistic that Raphinha will recover in time for the Clasico against Real Madrid on May 10, and potentially the Champions League semi-final on April 29, if they make it that far. The Brazilian winger is expected to be back in action around May 1, after a five-week recovery period from his hamstring injury.

With the World Cup just around the corner, Raphinha should be fit and ready for Brazil's squad, which kicks off on June 11 in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
