Atalanta's Captain, Marten de Roon - The Heart of Atalanta

Marten de Roon's Atalanta loyalty

Atalanta's captain Marten de Roon has no plans to leave, with an option year on his contract and a hunger to win more trophies for La Dea.

Marten de Roon's unwavering commitment to Atalanta...

Marten de Roon celebrated a milestone wearing the arbuckle, dedicating it to his former captain and Atalanta fans – his true football family.

The Dutch midfielder's love for Atalanta runs deep; he's played just 42 games for the Netherlands, with his last cap two years ago. Bergamo's fans have his heart, and he considers them his national team.

De Roon's 436th appearance against Hellas Verona cemented his place in Atalanta history – he's now the player with the most appearances for La Dea, surpassing Gianpaolo Bellini.

The Dutchman has truly made Bergamo his home since joining in 2015 (with a brief Middlesbrough stint). His stats are incredible: 23 goals, 31 assists, and a starter in 92.2% of games – that's commitment.

And it was precisely to Bellini that he dedicated part of his open letter to the fans: “On this journey and with this record that I am inheriting, I would like to dedicate a thought to the Atalanta flag. My first captain, Bergamo Doc, Gianpaolo Bellini. A man. A player who showed what it means to wear this jersey. Pride. Respect. Dedication. An example.”

Atalanta's Stalwart

De Roon's captaincy and leadership shine bright – he's led the Nerazzurri in 30% of matches and holds records for most appearances in Serie A (332), Champions League (43), and European competitions (75). He's a rare breed in modern football, committed to Atalanta despite its lack of major trophies.

De Roon's loyalty to Atalanta runs deep – he's been with La Dea since his debut on 16 August 2015, minus a brief stint in England. He even lifted the Europa League trophy with them, beating Bayer Leverkusen in an unforgettable final.

De Roon's Unquenchable Hunger

Marten de Roon's got no plans to leave Atalanta, with an option year on his contract and a fire still burning – “The hunger is still there. The hunger to win. To continue to grow. To leave something behind.”
