Ghana has parted ways with their coach, Otto Addo, just 72 days before the 2026 World Cup kicks off in North America. This decision comes after Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, which was part of their preparation for the tournament.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced Addo's departure, citing his poor run of matches despite having top players like Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus in the squad. During his tenure, Addo won eight matches and lost nine in 22 games.

Ghana will now look for a new coach to lead them in the World Cup, where they'll face Croatia, England, and Panama in Group L. The team has lost four consecutive matches, including a 5-1 thrashing by Austria, raising concerns about their readiness for the tournament.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” it said in a statement.

Otto Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund player, was sacked as Ghana's coach after failing to qualify the team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite having top players like Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus in the squad. His tenure was marked by inconsistent performances, including a winless qualifying campaign and heavy defeats in friendlies.

Addo's departure comes just 72 days before Ghana's World Cup campaign, with the team having suffered four consecutive losses. The Ghana Football Association cited his failure to qualify for AFCON and poor recent form as reasons for his dismissal.

Addo had been credited with securing Ghana's qualification for the 2026 World Cup, but critics questioned his tactical approach and ability to maximize the team's talent. His contract was terminated after a 2-1 defeat to Germany, following massive loss to Austria.

Otto Addo's tenure as Ghana's coach saw eight wins and nine losses in 22 games. His time in charge ended with the team struggling, having lost four games in a row.

Ghana will head to the 2026 World Cup in North America, where they'll face tough opponents in Group L – Croatia, England, and Panama. This will be Ghana's fifth World Cup appearance, and they'll be looking for a new coach to lead them to success.

The search is on for Addo's replacement, with the new coach facing a tough task to turn Ghana's fortunes around ahead of the World Cup.
