Real Madrid has advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, knocking Manchester City out of the competition for the third consecutive season with a 5-1 aggregate win. The second leg at the Etihad Stadium was intense, with a red card to Bernardo Silva in the 17th minute turning the tide in Real Madrid's favor.

Vinicius Junior scored twice, including a penalty after Silva's handball, to seal the win. Erling Haaland pulled one back for City, but it wasn't enough. Real Madrid's Federico Valverde had an early chance, but City's Gianluigi Donnarumma made a crucial save.

The game was barely underway when Federico Valverde had a chance to score, but his lob attempt sailed over the goal and into the grateful hands of City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City quickly turned the pressure up, knowing they needed to overturn a three-goal deficit. They had two close chances in quick succession, with Thibaut Courtois making crucial saves to deny Rayan Cherki and Rodri's powerful shot.

City's evening took a turn for the worse mid-way through the first half. Vinicius Junior's shot was blocked on the line by Bernardo Silva's elbow, earning him a red card after a VAR check. Vinicius converted the resulting penalty, putting Real Madrid 4-1 up on aggregate.

Vinicius Jr. had two more sitters, but Erling Haaland gave City hope before half-time, scoring from Jeremy Doku's deflected cross.

Haaland's goal gave City a glimmer of hope, but Real Madrid's defense remained shaky.

Real Madrid made a surprise half-time substitution, with Andriy Lunin replacing Thibaut Courtois. Lunin had to make two crucial saves in the first 10 minutes after the break to deny Erling Haaland.

Jeremy Doku did give City a glimmer of hope, beating Lunin and finding the bottom corner, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

City's performance deserved credit - it was hard to tell they'd had a player sent off, with Cherki's shot just missing the target.

Despite being a man down, City kept pushing, but Real Madrid held firm. Ait-Nouri's goal was ruled offside, and the game petered out.

Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. scored a dramatic late goal to seal a 2-1 win over Manchester City, securing a 5-1 aggregate victory and booking their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals. This thrilling win sets up a clash with Bayern Munich, who throttled Atalanta 6-1 in their last-16 tie.

City's hopes of UCL glory are now over, and with their Premier League title bid also in doubt, Sunday's Carabao Cup final has become a crucial focus for Pep Guardiola's team.
