Bayern's teen goalkeeper Prescott poised to start vs Atalanta in Champions League...

Bayern Munich's 16-year-old goalkeeper Leonard Prescott is on standby to make his Champions League debut against Atalanta if Jonas Urbig fails to recover from a concussion, according to coach Vincent Kompany. Prescott, a Germany youth international, plays for Bayern's Under-19 team and has received special clearance to work in the evening as a teenager.

Prescott is the only option for Bayern if Urbig is unavailable, having picked up a concussion in the 6-1 first-leg win in Italy. Kompany expressed confidence in Prescott, saying, “He is very calm. Overall, we as a staff are also calm. If he plays tomorrow, he will have our full backing.”

“Jonas trained normally today. The ‌decision tomorrow will be a medical one,” Kompany told a press conference.

“If everything goes well, then Urbig will be in goal. If not, then we will have to find another solution.

“He (Prescott) is very calm. Overall, we as a staff are also calm. If he plays tomorrow, he will have our full backing.

“Everyone will help. There will never be a young player who will be forced to play a main role,” Kompany said. “We have full confidence ‌in him, whatever happens tomorrow.”

Bayern Munich is facing a goalkeeper crisis, with Manuel Neuer still recovering from injury, Jonas Urbig dealing with a concussion, and Sven Ulreich out with an adductor muscle problem. Despite their 6-1 lead, coach Vincent Kompany is prepared to give 16-year-old Leonard Prescott a debut if needed.

Kompany's stance: “We're not playing it safe. We're looking to win the game.”

“You cannot allow too much. We made such an effort to build up the momentum we have,” Kompany said.

“This is not a friendly match... and if it is not about the result, it is about performance.”

Atalanta or Bayern, who top the Bundesliga and are in the German Cup semis, will face Real Madrid or Man City in the Champions League quarter-finals.
