Luis Enrique's PSG Hit by Injury Blow as Trio Miss Nice Game
Luis Enrique's PSG faces injury concerns as Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, and Bradley Barcola miss the game in Nice due to fitness issues.
Luis Enrique's PSG trip to Nice takes a hit as Joao Neves, Bradley Barcola, and Fabian Ruiz are ruled out due to injuries...
Enrique emphasized that there are no favorites in the tie, stating that both teams know how to handle big games. PSG will face Liverpool at the Parc des Princes on April 8, followed by the second leg at Anfield on April 14.
“It was very positive for us, a beautiful memory of a classic tie.” The quote sums up PSG's feelings about their last-16 tie against Liverpool.
PSG won the tie a year ago, 4-1 in a shoot-out after a 1-0 win at Anfield cancelled out Liverpool's 1-0 win in Paris. Luis Enrique's team went on to win the Champions League title for the first time.
Liverpool won the Premier League title last season and were favorites going into that tie. Now, they're fifth in the table and don't look as formidable.
“Are we the favourites now? I always try to weigh things up and control what is being said around the team,” Luis Enrique said ahead of PSG's Ligue 1 trip to Nice.
“I have players who are very intelligent and know that there is no favourite and that both sides know how to handle a game like this.”
PSG is currently leading the French table with a one-point advantage over Lens, and they have a game in hand after their match against Nantes was postponed. The postponement was intended to give the Qatar-backed club extra rest time between their Champions League last-16 tie against Chelsea, which they won 8-2 on aggregate.
The decision to postpone the match has given PSG more time to prepare for their next matches, including their quarter-final tie against Liverpool. Speaking about the upcoming match, Luis Enrique, PSG's coach, said, “We're used to playing against the best teams, that was our pattern this year and last year. Playing against a team like Liverpool is special, different.”
The question now is whether PSG will request another postponement for their trip to Lens on April 11, which falls between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.
Given the tight schedule, it's likely PSG might ask for a postponement to ensure they have enough time to prepare for Liverpool.
“I would like to wait for more news,” said Luis Enrique. “Every team wants to find the best conditions to play the competition but we can also understand the interests of other teams.”
Chevalier 'deserves' call-up
“I am very happy to see him in the squad, he deserves it,” Luis Enrique said about Lucas Chevalier, who was named in the latest France squad despite losing his PSG starting spot to Matvey Safonov. Chevalier hasn't played for PSG since January 23 and has been on the bench for the last 11 games.

“I always try to defend my players and my opinion of Lucas Chevalier's level has not changed in that time,” he said of a player who is a back-up to Mike Maignan in the France team.
PSG will be without Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, and Bradley Barcola for the game in Nice due to various fitness issues.
