Liverpool's Federico Chiesa gets Italy recall for World Cup play-offs.
Chiesa, who's been in top form, is back in the squad for Italy's World Cup qualifying play-offs under coach Gennaro Gattuso. Meanwhile, Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been dropped.
Italy will face Northern Ireland on March 26 in Bergamo. If they win, they'll take on the winner of Wales vs Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 31 for a World Cup spot.
If Italy fail to qualify, they'll miss a third World Cup in a row.
Gattuso also recalled Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini, 22, who's been recovering from a serious left knee injury since Euro 2024. Roma's 21-year-old midfielder Niccolo Pisilli, who won one cap in 2024, is also back. Cagliari defender Marco Palestra, 21, got his first call-up.
Chiesa, a key player in Italy's Euro 2021 win, is back in the squad after missing recent games. He last played for Italy at Euro 2024 where they crashed out to Switzerland.
Vicario, Tottenham's goalkeeper, has been dropped by Italy despite starting in their 2-0 win over Moldova in November. He was benched for the Norway game, which Italy lost 4-1.
