Eredivisie: Ajax's PSV Title Hopes Remain Unfulfilled

Feyenoord and Ajax settle for 1-1 draw in 201st Klassieker, keeping PSV's title hopes alive...

Feyenoord and Ajax clashed in the 201st Klassieker, and the spoils were shared. Jakub Moder's penalty cancelled out Seun Steur's stunning strike, ending the match 1-1.

The draw means PSV can still clinch the title, but they'll have to wait at least two more weeks. Feyenoord remain second, five points ahead of Ajax, who are struggling to find their footing under interim manager Óscar Garcia.

Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie made two forced changes, with Mats Deijl and Hwang In-beom ruled out through suspension and injury respectively. Jordan Lotomba and Tsuyoshi Watanabe came into the team, while Anel Ahmedhodzic took Thijs Kraaijeveld's spot in defence.

Feyenoord's Santiago Giménez was involved in the action, but it was Watanabe who had the first major chance. The Japanese defender's header from a free-kick was inches away from giving Feyenoord the lead.

Ajax's Jorthy Mokio made a crucial intervention, saving a goal-bound header with a heroic clearance on the goal line. The defender's effort kept Ajax in the game, despite Weghorst's presence up front.

A cagey first 30 minutes saw neither side get close to a goal outside of Watanabe's header, with stoppers Maarten Paes and Timon Wellenreuther forced to make the only saves on routine shots from Anis Hadj Moussa and Mika Godts.

Barely a minute had passed in the second half when Ayase Ueda popped up for the first time and headed the ball narrowly past Paes' near post, making for a rare chance in a defensive battle in Rotterdam.

18-year-old Ajax midfielder Seun Steur scored his first Eredivisie goal, breaking the deadlock against Feyenoord with just their second shot on target. He picked up a loose ball and fired it past Wellenreuther, giving Ajax the lead in the 54th minute.

Feyenoord mounted intense pressure, but failed to create a clear chance on goal. With less than 20 minutes left, they needed a spark in this crucial Klassieker.

Fortune smiled on Feyenoord when substitute Kian Fitz-Jim gave away a penalty. Jakub Moder stepped up, firing the spot-kick into the top right corner. The 82nd-minute equalizer made it 1-1, breathing new life into Feyenoord's challenge.

Feyenoord pushed hard in the final 15 minutes, sensing a win. Ajax goalkeeper Paes made a crucial save on Casper Tengstedt's curled attempt, keeping the scores level.

The hosts were effectively reduced to 10 men when Anis Hadj Moussa suffered a groin injury. Van Persie had already used all his substitutions, leaving Feyenoord to play out the remaining minutes with one man down.

Feyenoord and Ajax held onto the 1-1 scoreline in a poor, defensive Klassieker, as the hosts stayed five points ahead of Ajax.

An Ajax win could've seen PSV win the Eredivisie title with a win over Telstar later on Sunday, but with their lead expanding to 18 points at most, an official title win is out of the question for now.
