Simon Adingra marked his return to form with a brace, leading Monaco to a 3-1 win over struggling Nantes in Ligue 1. The Ivorian winger's goals were crucial in securing Monaco's second Ligue 1 win since November.

Folarin Balogun had an early chance to score, but his left-footed shot was deflected narrowly wide of the post in the eighth minute.

Adingra's shot from the edge of the box flew just past the post, but Wout Faes was denied a goal from point-blank range by an incredible save. However, Monaco's momentum was short-lived, as Abakar Sylla's error gifted Maghnes Akliouche a clear run on goal in the 25th minute.

Akliouche's strike was palmed into Adingra's path, and he made no mistake, opening his Monaco account with a well-taken goal.

Adingra scored his second goal just three minutes later, finishing well on Aleksandr Golovin's perfectly weighted ball. Nantes' struggles continued as they conceded another two minutes later, with Golovin assisting Denis Zakaria for his first goal of the season.

Monaco's second goal was a sign of things to come, as they dominated possession and created chances.

After a calm spell, however, Nantes managed to pull one goal back in added time, when defender Fabien Centonze netted his third of the season with a brilliant finish after a smart pullback.

Though that looked to be a mere consolation, Nantes took some confidence from that and dominated the possession after half time.

Aleksandr Golovin's red card gave Nantes renewed hope, but Monaco held on for the win. The victory moves Sébastien Pocognoli's side up to seventh place, within two points of Lille in the European qualification zone.

Monaco's win was a welcome boost, and they looked to have it wrapped up until Golovin's dismissal.

Nantes' losing streak stretches to five games, and the defeat could prove costly. Unfavourable results this weekend might drop them 11 points behind safety, intensifying their relegation battle.
