FC Volendam deal PSV shocking second loss after world-class Van Cruijsen goal...
Robin van Cruijsen and Aurelio Oehlers dealt PSV a shocking second league loss of the season after beating the reigning champions 2-1 on Friday evening.
PSV knew it had to defend a 17-point lead from this week onwards after NEC missed the chance to claim second place from Feyenoord with a midweek loss to FC Utrecht. Away at FC Volendam, PSV manager Peter Bosz handed Esmir Bajraktarevic another start, while also giving Ryan Flamingo his second league start since late September.
PSV Eindhoven, the visitors, started strong with several chances in the first 20 minutes but couldn't break through Volendam's defense. However, things took a turn in the second half, and Volendam capitalized on PSV's poor start, with Robin van Cruijsen scoring a stunning volley in the 67th minute to give the hosts a surprise lead.
PSV Eindhoven was on the attack, creating chances, with Armando Obsipo's header from a corner just missing Kayne van Oevelen's goal. They managed to equalize through Dennis Man, who replaced Bajraktarevic and scored past Van Oevelen at his near post.
However, the lead was short-lived, as Aurelio Oehlers was set up by Dave Kwakman and scored a one-on-one with Niek Schiks, restoring Volendam's lead with just three minutes to go.
Dennis Man had a great opportunity to score his second goal just a minute after Oehlers put Volendam ahead, but his shot flew over Van Oevelen's goal, marking PSV's last chance of the evening.
PSV Eindhoven, the dominant league leaders, suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat against FC Volendam, who became the second promoted team to beat them this season, following Telstar's win in late Augustm
