Glasner Puts Club First: 'Oliver Glasner Not Important, Crystal Palace Is'
Crystal Palace fans protest Against Glasner amidst contract uncertainty

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says he's putting the club first amid fan protests and contract uncertainty.

“It's not that I have to live in London because otherwise I don't know what to do...”

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is unfazed by the fan protest banner calling for his dismissal, insisting he has the club's backing after a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The banner, which read “Opportunities missed - board inept. Fans disrespected - Glasner finished,”  was displayed during Sunday's match at Selhurst Park. Glasner revealed he had reassurances from the club's hierarchy, including chairman Steve Parish and sporting director Matt Hobbs, that they believe he's the right person for the job.

Glasner's confidence comes despite his comments earlier this week, where he urged fans to “stay humble after they called for his sacking following a 1-1 draw at Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League playoffs. The Austrian coach has been with Palace since 2021 and led the team to FA Cup glory last season, their first major trophy in 120 years.

However, Glasner revealed he had received reassurances from the club's hierarchy about his position, stating he spoke with chairman Steve Parish and sporting director Matt Hobbs, who told him “No, we think you are the right one.”

Glasner had previously expressed frustration with the club's transfer decisions, particularly the sale of captain Marc Guehi, and had announced he would leave Palace at the end of the season. Despite the protests, Glasner insisted he is committed to the team and is focused on turning their season around.

“I spoke to the board, to the chairman (Steve Parish), to the ‌sporting director (Matt Hobbs) and they said, 'No we think you are the right one',” Glasner told the BBC.

“For me, it's important that they (fans) support the team, and they did it ‌until the end. Of course, the fans are like us all, disappointed with some results ‌and some parts of the game - that's normal.”

Crystal Palace fans are up in arms with manager Oliver Glasner after he told them to “stay humble” following their 1-1 draw at Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League playoffs. Glasner's comments, which came after fans called for his sacking, were seen as dismissive and sparked outrage among supporters.

The backlash led to a protest banner being displayed at Selhurst Park during Palace's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, reading "fans disrespected - Glasner finished". Despite the criticism, Glasner insists he didn't mean to disrespect anyone and has received backing from the club's hierarchy, including chairman Steve Parish and sporting director Matt Hobbs.

“We had the best two years in Crystal Palace's history and then it's not so easy for a club to say 'Hey, it's better you leave',” he added.

Oliver Glasner, 51, has confirmed he'll leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, stating he's looking for a "new challenge" after nearly two years at Selhurst Park. This decision was made back in October, and Glasner informed chairman Steve Parish about his intention not to renew his contract.

Glasner's departure comes after a mixed season for Palace, with the team currently 13th in the Premier League. Despite leading the team to FA Cup glory last season, Glasner has faced criticism for the team's recent poor form, including one win in 15 games.

“I don't know if the club has a different idea, I don't want to stay in the way, and then we will find a solution,” he said.

“I didn't say I will step back, I will resign (or) whatever, so maybe now it is clearer.”

Glasner's Dedication to Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner put the club's interests above his own when he said, “Oliver Glasner is not important. Crystal Palace is important.” This statement comes as Glasner faces criticism from fans, who are calling for his dismissal after a string of poor results. Despite announcing he'll leave Palace at the end of the season, Glasner insists he's committed to doing what's best for the club.

Glasner's comments come after a turbulent few weeks, including a 1-1 draw with Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League playoffs and a disappointing run of one win in 15 games. Fans have been vocal about their discontent, but Glasner remains focused on the team's performance.

Oliver Glasner emphasized the importance of having his players' support, revealing he had spoken with them about his future. “I need the players... It's important that the players are believing in what we are telling them, I and the staff,”  he said, highlighting the crucial role his team plays in his decision-making process.

Glasner's comments come amid a challenging period for Crystal Palace, with the team winning just one of their last 15 games. Despite this, Glasner remains committed to the club, insisting he's focused on Crystal Palace's success.

“It's not that I have to live in London because otherwise I don't know what to do,” he said.

“No, the most important thing is Crystal Palace, and I am here 100% to be successful for Crystal Palace.

“I need the players... It's important that the players are believing in what we ‌are telling them, I and the staff.”
