Bayern Munich has announced that Dayot Upamecano has extended his contract until 2030, securing the French defender's future at the club.
“The whole package he brings is hugely valuable for our squad. We're happy he's staying with us...”
Dayot Upamecano has signed a new four-year contract with Bayern Munich, extending his stay until 2030. The 27-year-old French defender joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has made 180 appearances for the club, winning three Bundesliga titles.
Upamecano's decision to stay is seen as a major win for Bayern, with sporting director Christoph Freund praising his development into a world-class defender and leader. The new contract includes a hefty signing-on fee and a release clause valid from 2027, reportedly worth €65m.
France defender Dayot Upamecano has extended his Bayern Munich contract by four years to 2030. Upamecano, 27, joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has made 180 appearances, winning three Bundesliga titles.
“I'm really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We've got a great team and a great coach. We've got big goals together,” Upamecano said in a statement.
“I give my all for my teammates, in every training session. I want to keep a clean sheet in every game and I want to win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”
Upamecano has come a long way - after struggling with injuries and criticism early at Bayern, he's now a regular for France, starting at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including the final loss to Argentina.
Under Vincent Kompany, Bayern's manager since 2024, Upamecano's form has skyrocketed. “He has developed into a truly world-class defender and leader here at Bayern,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.
“The whole package he brings is hugely valuable for our squad. We're happy he's staying with us.”
Dayot Upamecano has finally put the speculation to rest by extending his contract with Bayern Munich until 2030. The French defender's deal was set to expire this summer, sparking rumors of a move to top clubs like Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and several Premier League teams.
Upamecano and his agent had been in tough negotiations with Bayern, with the German tabloid Bild reporting that he missed a club-imposed deadline to decide on his future. However, the two parties eventually reached an agreement, with Upamecano set to earn around €20 million annually, plus a €20 million signing bonus and a €65 million release clause valid from 2027.

In January, Bayern's Uli Hoeness slammed Upamecano's agent for dragging out contract talks, telling Kicker magazine he was “appalled by this behaviour.” The criticism highlighted the tense negotiations between Upamecano and Bayern over his new deal.
Bayern Munich relented on their stance, agreeing to Upamecano's demands, including a hefty signing-on bonus and a release clause valid from 2027. Currently, Bayern tops the Bundesliga table with a six-point lead and has secured a spot in the Champions League last 16.
