Napoli has taken a major step towards the Serie A title, moving joint-top of the standings after a 1-0 win over Roma. David Neres' first-half goal was the difference, extending Napoli's dominance over Roma to just one defeat in 12 matches (W7, D4).
Roma had started the night two points ahead of Napoli, looking to reclaim the top spot after Milan's win over Lazio on Saturday. However, Napoli's strong performance, particularly in the first half, proved too much for the hosts.
It was Gli Azzurri, however, who started on the front foot at the Stadio Olimpico, as Rasmus Hojlund saw an early effort thwarted by Mile Svilar and Giovanni Di Lorenzo directed a powerful volley into the side-netting from eight yards.

Napoli continued to threaten as the first half progressed, and Svilar had to react quickly to parry away a dangerous cross-cum-shot from Noa Lang, but Roma then created a couple of chances themselves at the other end.
Evan Ferguson had two chances but failed to hit the target, and Napoli capitalized with a superb counter-attack. Rasmus Hojlund played David Neres through on goal, and the Brazilian scored with a clever finish over Svilar in the 36th minute.
Napoli looked to extend their lead early in the second half, but Scott McTominay's close-range effort was thwarted by Mile Svilar's impressive goalkeeping. Despite Roma's tendency to score late goals, with five of their seven home league goals coming after half-time, Napoli held firm to secure the win.

Eager to maintain that reputation for finding a second wind up front, Gian Piero Gasperini introduced Paulo Dybala and Neil El Aynaoui into the action as time ticked into the final half-hour.
However, for all their possession in the final third, clear-cut openings were in short supply until the final minute of the 90’, when Tommaso Baldanzi’s low strike was expertly denied by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
That proved to be the hosts’ best chance of salvaging a late equaliser, with Napoli holding firm to leapfrog Roma in the Serie A standings
