Aitana Bonmati, Barcelona's star player and three-time Ballon d'Or winner, is facing several months on the sidelines due to a leg fracture she suffered during training with the Spanish national team. The injury occurred on Sunday, and she'll miss Tuesday's Women's Nations League final second leg against Germany, as well as several club matches.
Bonmati fractured her left fibula, and the recovery time is estimated to be at least two months, potentially extending to three months or more if surgery is required. This is a significant blow to Spain, who are looking to retain the Nations League title, and to Barcelona, who are currently top of Liga F and leading their Champions League group.
Catalan media reported that Bonmati will be sidelined for “a minimum of two months” as she recovers from a fracture in her left fibula, sustained during an accidental fall in training. The injury could keep her out for over three months if surgery is required.
The Spanish football federation confirmed that Bonmati left training “in pain after a bad landing” and was diagnosed with the fracture.
