Heracles Almelo stunned the Eredivisie with an 8-2 thrashing of PEC Zwolle on Sunday, just a week after parting ways with manager Bas Sibum. The dramatic change in fortunes came after a dismal start to the season, which saw Heracles win just one of their first 10 games, scoring only 7 goals while conceding 30.

The club board's decision to fire Sibum appears to have paid off, at least in the short term, as Heracles surged to a shocking victory over PEC Zwolle. The eight-goal haul lifted Heracles off the bottom of the table, but only temporarily, as they still have a long way to go to ensure their safety in the Eredivisie.

Interim manager Hendrie Kruzen marked his fourth Eredivisie game in charge of Heracles with a crucial match against struggling PEC Zwolle. The visitors got off to a flying start, with Kaj de Rooij scoring in the ninth minute to give them a 1-0 lead.

However, Heracles responded with a vengeance, thanks to a stunning hat-trick from striker Jizz Hornkamp. The young forward scored three goals in a 14-minute spell, including a breathtaking strike into the top corner that left the PEC Zwolle defense bewildered.

Heracles continued their onslaught after the break and scored a fifth goal just five minutes in. Centre-back Mike te Wierik headed in a cross from Walid Ould-Chikh, scoring his first professional goal since 2019.

Bryan Limbombe doubled the lead with a powerful volley, and Alec van Hoorenbeeck made it 6-1 with a tap-in. Kaj de Rooij chipped Fabian de Keijzer to complete his brace, but Heracles weren't done yet. Thomas Bruns sealed an 8-2 thrashing with a late goal, surpassing their total goals under Bas Sibum's management.

Heracles' dominant performance saw them score eight goals, a stark contrast to their previous games under Sibum, where they managed just seven goals in total. The match ended 8-2 in favor of Heracles, a testament to their attacking prowess.
