Bas Sibum sacked as Heracles Almelo manager after a string of poor results, citing poor results to the Eredivisie season as the reason.
“We wanted to see an appropriate response against FC Volendam, but that did not happen...”
Heracles Almelo has parted ways with manager Bas Sibum due to a dismal start to the Eredivisie season. The club sits at the bottom of the table with only three points from ten matches.
The decision to fire Sibum comes after Heracles' 3-0 thrashing at FC Volendam, which further widened the gap between them and the 17th-place Telstar to four points. Technical director Nico-Jan Hoogma has also left the club, citing responsibility for the team's poor performance.
In a statement, Heracles Almelo's supervisory board chairman Hans Morsink explained that the decision was results-driven, saying they saw no signs that the team's performance would improve significantly in the near future.
Sibum, who took over as manager this season, had been under scrutiny for the team's struggles. Hoogma, who had supported Sibum's appointment, stepped down as well, expressing his sadness but emphasizing that no one is bigger than the club.
Heracles Almelo announced the departure of manager Bas Sibum on Sunday, following a 3-0 loss to FC Volendam on Saturday. The club's disastrous start to the season, with only three points from ten matches, led to Sibum's dismissal.
“This decision was prompted by the results,” said Hans Morsink, Chairman of the Supervisory Board. “We wanted to see a fitting response against FC Volendam, but that didn't materialize. We didn't see enough indications that would give us certainty about substantially better performances in the near future. With this painful decision, we hope to turn the tide.”
Technical director Nico-Jan Hoogma also left the club, feeling responsible for the team's struggles. “With a heavy heart, I step aside now,” Hoogma said. “I'm proud of what we've achieved together, but the journey continues without me.”

Technical Director Nico-Jan Hoogma Steps Down
Nico-Jan Hoogma, Heracles Almelo's technical director, has resigned, citing responsibility for the team's poor performance and the appointment of former manager Bas Sibum. Hoogma, who previously served as the club's general manager from 2007 to 2018, expressed his pride in the club's achievements during his tenure.
“We chose Bas with complete conviction,” Hoogma said. “I myself worked day and night to make this collaboration a success. When the results failed to materialise, I entered into discussions with the Supervisory Board and, in mutual consultation and with great respect for each other, we decided to part ways.”

“Nobody is bigger than the club, and it's above all importance that a change comes now.” Heracles Almelo parted ways with manager Bas Sibum due to the team's poor performance.
Sibum was appointed as the club's manager in the summer of 2025 after a thorough procedure. During his tenure, Heracles secured only three points from ten matches, resulting in the club sitting at the bottom of the Eredivisie table.
The decision to dismiss Sibum was made after the team lost 3-0 to FC Volendam. “This decision was prompted by the results,” said Hans Morsink, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
Sibum's departure comes with technical director Nico-Jan Hoogma also leaving the club. Hoogma expressed his pride in being part of Heracles Almelo and thanked the fans for their support. “With a heavy heart, I step aside now,” Hoogma said. “From the first day in 2004, I felt like a true Heraclied. We've experienced ups and downs, but the lows pale in comparison to the many highlights we've shared together.”
