Xabi Alonso hails Jude Bellingham's match-winning performance

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso praises Jude Bellingham's match-winning performance in the Clasico win over Barcelona.

“Jude is a player who is about feelings, on communicating and connecting, and that's why he has played some very good matches...”

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso praised Jude Bellingham's match-winning performance in the Clasico, saying the midfielder has shown top form in recent games. Bellingham's goal and assist were crucial in Madrid's 2-1 win over Barcelona, following his winner against Juventus in the Champions League.

“Bellingham's had three very good games,” Xabi Alonso said, highlighting the midfielder's impressive performances against Juventus, Getafe, and Barcelona. Alonso noted that Bellingham needed time to get going after his return from shoulder surgery, but the 22-year-old has exceeded expectations.

Alonso downplayed any tension between Vinicius Junior and the coaching staff after the winger's substitution, saying it's normal in high-intensity games like the Clasico. He emphasized the team's focus on the win, which puts Madrid five points clear of Barcelona in La Liga.

The midfielder was sidelined for several weeks at the start of the season due to surgery for a persistent shoulder issue. As a result, Thomas Tuchel didn't select him for England's October matches.

“We saw it against Juventus, and today, and against Getafe (last weekend). In the last week, he's had three very good games,” Alonso told reporters.

“At first, you need a bit of time, some minutes to get in gear, and it's gone even better than we expected after the last international break, when he was here and not with the national team.

“Jude is a player who is about feelings, on communicating and connecting, and that's why he has played some very good matches.”

Bellingham's goal against Juventus marked his first at the Santiago Bernabeu since April. In the Clasico, Madrid extended their lead over Barcelona to five points, thanks to Bellingham's match-winning goal. The match saw Kylian Mbappe open the scoring, before Fermin Lopez equalized, but Bellingham's strike sealed the win for Real Madrid.

The pre-match talk was centered around Lamine Yamal's comments about Real Madrid being sore losers and accusing them of “stealing.” However, Xabi Alonso downplayed the remarks, stating that his team didn't need extra motivation to face Barcelona, especially after losing four Clasico matches last season.

“The team was very motivated, we had been talking about how important the game was beforehand, not just for the three points,” explained Alonso.

“(But instead) for where (we) came from, for having a good game, deserving to win, and I am very happy for the boys above all because they needed this feeling of being able to win a big game, like Clasicos are “I don't want to lose focus on what is really important here... Vini brought a lot, like the other players,” added Alonso.

“It's an important win and it could even have been bigger.”
