“I’m just really proud of myself. I’ve played so much tennis the last few weeks, so many three-set matches...”

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will face off in an all-American final at the Wuhan Open. Pegula secured her spot with a thrilling 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) win over world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals.

The dramatic match saw Pegula fight back from 2-5 down in the deciding set. She eventually dominated the tiebreaker to seal the victory after two hours and 20 minutes, setting up a showdown with Gauff.

Earlier, Gauff edged out Jasmine Paolini with a 6-4, 6-3 win, marking her third WTA 1000 final of the year. The stage is set for an intense battle between two American tennis stars.

“That was crazy, I can't believe I came back and won that,” said Pegula, who has won seven of the eight consecutive three-set matches she played in the last 17 days.

“I’m just really proud of myself. I’ve played so much tennis the last few weeks, so many three-set matches but I feel like I’m very tough right now and I’m just using that as best I can.”

Jessica Pegula defeated Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7/2) to advance to her sixth final of the season. The American sixth seed ended Sabalenka's flawless 20-0 record at the Wuhan Open, setting up an all-American final against Coco Gauff.

The semi-finals saw a high number of service breaks, thanks to the cooler temperatures and slower court conditions. In the match between Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka, there were five breaks of serve in the first six games.

Aryna Sabalenka eventually gained control, taking a 5-2 lead after Pegula's early struggles. However, Pegula staged a remarkable comeback, fighting back from 2-5 down in the deciding set to force a tiebreaker. She ultimately triumphed 7-6(2), 6-4, 2-6 in a thrilling match.

Pegula recovered from an early set deficit to take the second set from Sabalenka. The match then entered a nail-biting third set.

Sabalenka seemed poised to seal the win, serving for the match at 5-3. However, Pegula produced a stunning turnaround, breaking back to level the set at 5-5 and 6-6 before ultimately prevailing 7-6(2) in the tiebreaker.

Pegula's frustration boiled over when Sabalenka hit a return winner to reach set point. The American threw her racquet in anger, but Sabalenka capitalized on the momentum to take the first set 6-2 in just 40 minutes.

Despite struggling with her serve, Pegula found her rhythm off the ground, which helped her adjust and dominate the second set. She rebounded strongly to level the match at one set all.

In a heart-stopping finale, Pegula faced set point at 5-3 and 6-5 but rallied to stave off defeat. Despite double-faulting four times while serving for the win and letting two match points slip away, Sabalenka forced a tiebreaker.

Pegula elevated her game when it mattered most, claiming the 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) victory. This marked her third win in 11 meetings with Sabalenka, showcasing her growing prowess against the Belarusian star.
