Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominance at the Wuhan Open, defeating Elena Rybakina 6-3, 6-3 and extending her unbeaten streak to 20 matches. This win paves the way for her potential fourth consecutive title.

Sabalenka will face Jessica Pegula in the semifinals after Pegula's earlier win over Katerina Siniakova. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff secured a spot in the semifinals with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 victory over Laura Siegemund, setting up a potential showdown with Sabalenka.

In an upset, seventh seed Jasmine Paolini ousted second seed Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-2. Paolini's strong performance hands her a semifinal berth against Coco Gauff.

The rivalry between Sabalenka and Rybakina continued its high-stakes history, with Sabalenka striking first. She broke Rybakina's serve in the eighth game with a powerful forehand winner, taking control of the set.

Sabalenka, a two-time Wuhan title winner, sealed the opening set with a hold and then broke Rybakina early in the second set. This dominant display tightened her grip on the match, leaving Rybakina struggling to find her rhythm.

Sabalenka closed out the win despite struggling with her serve late in the match, ultimately prevailing 6-3, 6-3. The victory improved her head-to-head record against Rybakina to 8-5, providing some payback for her surprise loss to the Kazakh in Cincinnati earlier this year.

“She's a great player, very nice girl and always tough to play against,” Sabalenka said.

“We have a really huge history against each other, always great battles, and I'm always excited to play her. She always pushes me to the limit. I'm super happy with my performance today, with the win and the support in the stadium.

“I feel a really great connection with Chinese fans, I guess. I feel at home every time I'm playing in this stadium. Honestly, it (the winning run) is crazy.”

Sabalenka's next opponent will be Jessica Pegula, who came from a set down to defeat Katerina Siniakova 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. The win marked Pegula's 50th match victory of the season, strengthening her bid for a spot at the WTA Finals.

Aryna Sabalenka holds a significant head-to-head advantage over Jessica Pegula, leading 8-2 in their meetings. This includes wins in the 2024 US Open final and the semifinals of the same tournament last month. Sabalenka's dominance makes her the favorite to advance in their upcoming match.

In a stunning upset, Jasmine Paolini defeated world No. 2 Iga Swiatek, setting up a rematch of their 2024 French Open final against Coco Gauff. Paolini's flawless display marked her first win over Swiatek, showcasing her growing prowess on the court.

Given Sabalenka's strong record, the upcoming match against Pegula promises to be an intense battle. Pegula's recent performances, however, suggest she's a formidable opponent, having won at least a set in her last eight matches. Will Sabalenka's power prevail, or will Pegula's determination pay off?

“Finally, I won a match,” a beaming Paolini said immediately after her seventh meeting with Swiatek.

“I'm super happy about my level. It feels amazing.”
