Salford City strengthens their attack with the signing of Fabio Borini. Find out what this means for the team.
“I came in to train to keep myself fit in this transition between contracts and Salford...”
Fabio Borini has inked a short-term deal with Salford City, a League Two side in England. The 34-year-old Italian forward joins the club after training with them over the past few weeks.
Borini's move to Salford City comes after his departure from Sampdoria, where he spent two seasons in Serie B. The experienced striker is expected to bring leadership and skills to the team, despite being a new face in the League Two.
Borini expressed his enthusiasm for the move, citing the opportunity to play “real football” and be part of a team. He'll wear the number 16 shirt for Salford City and is eligible for selection after completing the necessary clearance procedures.
The signing is a strategic move by Salford City, who are looking to bolster their attacking options following Jay Bird's injury. Borini's wealth of experience, including his time at Liverpool, Sunderland, and AC Milan, is expected to benefit the team.
Borini's football journey began at Bologna, where he honed his skills before joining Chelsea's academy in 2007. This marked the beginning of his professional career.
After impressing at Roma, Borini made a notable move to Liverpool in 2012. However, it was his stint at Sunderland that brought him regular football, showcasing his talents in the Premier League.

Borini's career trajectory continued with spells at AC Milan, Hellas Verona, and Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük. In a recent development, he signed with Sampdoria. Borini is now poised to make his presence felt at Salford, with his next fixture set against Oldham Athletic on October 18.
“It’s been great,” Borini said. “I came in to train to keep myself fit in this transition between contracts and Salford, and the gaffer, were kind enough to allow me to use the facilities and train here.
“Experience is one thing I can bring, but it’s not just what I have on the pitch – it’s also off it, leading by example in training, outside training, and learning how to manage a game.
“I’ve never played League Two football, so I’ll need to learn from my teammates about the main characteristics of this league. But I’ll bring myself as an open book – to help, to learn, to contribute. It’s a challenge I’m embracing because I needed real football again – something that warms my heart.”
