Holger Rune is planning to revamp his diet to take his tennis game to the next level. The 22-year-old Danish player had an inconsistent season, despite achieving notable successes like winning the Barcelona title and reaching the Indian Wells final.

Rune believes a better diet will help him improve his overall performance and consistency. “More vegetables,” he said, hinting at the changes he plans to make. By focusing on healthier eating, Rune aims to establish himself as a top-10 player in the world rankings.

“I've talked a lot with my team after Shanghai. That was a big part of the frustrations I had on court,” Rune told sports website SpilXsperten. “We've evaluated it thoroughly afterwards and talked it through, and we've found some solutions.”

“Of course, more physical training can be done, and that's also what I need to focus on in pre-season,” Rune added. "But we've been looking into my diet to see what I can eat to feel better.

“It's obviously about getting the right vegetables, rice, and pasta at the right time so my body can feel better. It's basic stuff, but it's damn important in order to perform properly - so that's what we're looking into.”

Holger Rune, a talented Danish tennis player, has been mentioned alongside top contenders Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Despite his promising skills, Rune has yet to advance beyond the quarterfinal stage in any Grand Slam tournament. His best Grand Slam performance was at the 2022 French Open and 2023 French Open where he reached the quarterfinals.

“The season has definitely had its ups and downs. I've had both good and not-so-good weeks. Right now, I'm just focusing on the present and on playing well in Stockholm,” he said.

Top seed Holger Rune is set to face Argentine opponent Tomas Etcheverry in the quarterfinals of the Nordic Open ATP 250 event. Rune, currently ranked 11th in the world, is looking to continue his strong form after a convincing win over Marton Fucsovics in the previous round.

The debate about court speeds has been ongoing, with tennis legend Roger Federer expressing his views on the matter. Federer, along with others, has suggested that organizers have opted for slower surfaces, which could potentially impact player performance.

Rune, who has been in good form this season, will be looking to capitalize on his skills and experience to overcome Etcheverry. The Argentine player, ranked 63rd in the world, has shown promise this year, winning three career titles.

“I actually think it's more the balls than the court that have become slower,” he said. “I'm sure something changed after the pandemic. The materials in the balls have changed. I've talked to many current and former players about that too.”
