Emma Raducanu's 2025 season has come to an abrupt end due to ongoing physical issues. The former US Open champion has withdrawn from her final two scheduled events in Tokyo and Hong Kong, according to British media reports.
Raducanu's recent struggles with fitness continued in Ningbo, where she lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to China's Zhu Lin. During the match, she received treatment for a back issue, which seemed to affect her performance. This follows her retirement from a match against Ann Li in Wuhan, where she was trailing 6-1, 4-1.
Despite the setbacks, Raducanu has reason to feel positive about her future. She will retain the services of Spanish coach Francisco Roig, a seasoned professional who has worked with Rafael Nadal in the past. With Roig's expertise, Raducanu may finally find the consistency and success that has eluded her since her Grand Slam win in 2021.
Raducanu's 2025 season was marked by flashes of brilliance, including a quarterfinal appearance at the Miami Open and a semifinal run in Washington. She won 28 matches this year, demonstrating her potential. However, her fitness issues have hindered her progress, making it challenging for her to maintain a consistent level of performance.
The Briton had a promising US Open run, which she aimed to build on during the Asian swing. Having secured dominant wins before losing to Elena Rybakina, the ninth seed, she's hopeful her performance will earn her a seeded spot at the Australian Open next year.
Johanna Konta's recent performances could boost her chances of getting seeded at the Australian Open. With a strong showing at the US Open and a good run in the Asian swing, she'll be looking to carry her momentum into the new year.

Emma Raducanu will continue working with Spanish coach Francisco Roig into next season. This decision comes after a series of changes to her coaching team in recent seasons. Roig, who previously worked with Rafael Nadal, joined Raducanu's team in August on a contract that initially ran until the end of the season.
Raducanu has faced challenges in maintaining form and fitness since her US Open win in 2021. However, she showed promising signs earlier this year with a quarterfinal appearance at the Miami Open. During this tournament, she beat eighth seed Emma Navarro before losing to fourth-ranked Pegula. Raducanu's 2025 season saw her win 28 matches, with notable performances including a semifinal run in Washington, D.C.
The partnership with Roig will continue beyond this season, with a training block scheduled for the end of the year. Raducanu described her initial trial with Roig as a “black ops mission,” highlighting the secretive nature of their initial meetings. With Roig's expertise, Raducanu aims to improve her game and achieve greater consistency.
