Clara Tauson has withdrawn from the upcoming WTA 500 tournament in Tokyo due to ongoing physical issues. Her father and manager, Soren Tauson, confirmed the decision, citing her body's inability to handle full matches recently.
Clara Tauson's struggles with fitness are attributed to a long and demanding season. She recently received treatment for her back during her first-round defeat against Alja Tomljanovic in Ningbo and had to retire with pain against Jasmine Paolini in Wuhan.
The 22-year-old Dane is currently registered for one more tournament this season - the WTA 250 event in Hong Kong starting next Monday. However, her participation remains uncertain due to her ongoing physical problems. Tauson has also been selected for the Billie Jean King Cup matches in Mexico on November 14 and 15, but her readiness for that event is still unknown.
“Clara will not compete in Tokyo. She was otherwise very much looking forward to Tokyo, but she is not ready to do battle.”
“It's a shame. She has played some nice tennis in recent weeks, but her body has not been ready to play full matches, and we have to react to that,” explains Soren Tauson.
Clara Tauson's withdrawal from the Tokyo tournament stems from ongoing physical issues that have plagued her in recent weeks. Despite receiving treatment for her back during her match in Ningbo, China, Tauson couldn't shake off the discomfort.
Tauson's struggles are evident in her recent performances, including a three-set loss to Alja Tomljanovic in Ningbo, where she received on-court treatment for her back. Prior to that, she had to retire in her match against Jasmine Paolini in Wuhan due to a leg injury.
The 21-year-old Dane's fitness concerns have raised questions about her readiness for the remainder of the season, with Tauson currently slated to participate in the WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong next week.
Clara Tauson's schedule is limited to just one more tournament, the WTA 250 event in Hong Kong, starting next Monday, before the season concludes. However, her participation remains uncertain due to ongoing physical issues.
Tauson has also been selected to represent Denmark in the Billie Jean King Cup internationals against Mexico on November 14-15. Her fitness status will be closely monitored, and it's unclear if she'll be able to participate.
