Clara Tauson withdrew from her match against Jasmine Paolini when she was down 6-3, 1-6, 1-5 in the 1/8 final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, China

The Dane began brightly against the world number eight, Jasmine Paolini, but was injured and ended up losing the round of 16

Caroline Tauson started strong against her Italian opponent, winning the first set 6-3 after taking control and dictating the game. However, her momentum didn't last, as she lost the second set 1-6. Tauson battled through pain in the third set, but ultimately retired at 1-3, unable to continue.

Tauson had a solid start, breaking serve at 2-1 and fending off a single break point before increasing her lead to 3-1 in the first set. She dominated her service games, winning 12 out of 13 points, and closed out the set 6-3. Despite her strong start, Tauson couldn't maintain her level of play due to pain and discomfort.

The match's momentum shifted dramatically in the second set, as Clara Tauson struggled with the intense heat and was broken in three successive games. She received medical treatment at 1-4 for a groin injury and returned with her thigh bandaged.

Despite her efforts, Tauson was visibly hampered by the injury, allowing Jasmine Paolini to dominate and take the second set 6-1. The Italian's advantage grew as Tauson's mobility was severely limited, setting the stage for Paolini's eventual win after Tauson's retirement in the third set.

Despite her pain, Clara Tauson pushed hard in the third set, attempting to dominate the rallies and secure quick points. This approach led to some impressive winners, but also resulted in unforced errors. As Jasmine Paolini gained the upper hand in their baseline battles, Tauson's energy waned.

Paolini played tactically, sensing Tauson's struggles. When she broke Tauson's serve for 3-1, the Dane decided to retire, unable to continue. Paolini's smart play allowed her to advance to the next round without further exertion.
