China Open Semifinals: Anisimova Dominates Gauff, Noskova Edges Pegula

Anisimova crushes Gauff

The China Open final is set: Amanda Anisimova crushes Coco Gauff, while Linda Noskova stuns Jessica Pegula in the China Open semifinals.

“I didn't expect to play so well here after a few weeks without matches, especially considering I had my wisdom...”

Amanda Anisimova dominated Coco Gauff in the semifinals, winning 6-1, 6-2 in just 58 minutes. This impressive victory sends Anisimova to the China Open final, where she'll face Linda Noskova.

In the other semifinal, 26th-seeded Linda Noskova pulled off a remarkable win against fifth seed Jessica Pegula, saving three match points in a thrilling 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (8/6) match that lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes. Noskova's determination and skill earned her a spot in the final against Anisimova.

“I felt really good throughout the whole match,” third-seeded American Anisimova, beaten in the final in New York by Aryna Sabalenka a month ago, said.

“All my shots were working today, which is my favourite way to play.

“Coco's a really tough player, so I knew I was gonna really have to step it up.”

Amanda Anisimova took control of the match early, storming into a 5-0 lead in the first set within just 15 minutes. Coco Gauff struggled to find her rhythm, hitting several shots long and into the net. Despite double-faulting twice and giving Anisimova two set points, Gauff managed to get on the scoreboard, but it was too little, too late.

Anisimova's dominance continued into the second set, where she quickly built a 5-0 lead over her compatriot. Although Gauff fought back to win a couple of games, Anisimova remained in control and sealed the victory in just 58 minutes. The win sets up a final match against Linda Noskova, who stunned fifth seed Jessica Pegula in the semifinals.

Amanda Anisimova expressed surprise at reaching another final so quickly, especially given her recent schedule. She had just played in the US Open final and had a tooth removed on the day of her flight to Beijing. Despite these factors, Anisimova has been on a roll, showcasing her resilience and determination.

In her own words, Anisimova mentioned, “I didn't expect to play so well here after a few weeks without matches, especially considering I had my wisdom tooth removed on the day of my flight.” This sentiment reflects her unexpected success in reaching the final of the Beijing tournament.

“I didn't really feel like I was match fit ahead of the tournament,” said the 24-year-old, who is one win away from a fourth career title.

“I was like, is it a mistake that I'm flying there (Beijing) and everything's just off to a bad start?

“But I think I learned... when I'm not feeling my best physically or I'm facing a challenge, I actually play better because I don't have as much pressure.”

Amanda Anisimova reflected on her impressive win, saying, “It's been a great year for me.” She also revealed her excitement about qualifying for the WTA Finals in Beijing. This milestone marks a significant achievement in Anisimova's career, showcasing her hard work and determination.

“She's definitely one of the best,” Gauff said.

“Today I would have liked to perform better, and I need to step up my game.”

Anisimova's path to the final was paved with dominant performances, including her semifinal win against Coco Gauff. The match saw Anisimova taking control from the start, ultimately winning 6-1, 6-2 in just 58 minutes. Gauff's loss wasn't entirely unexpected, given Anisimova's recent form. Anisimova's only previous loss on the Diamond Court was to Poland's world number two, Iga Swiatek, in the 2023 semifinals.

Linda Noskova's Thrilling Win

Linda Noskova pulled off a stunning upset against American tennis star Jessica Pegula, winning 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6) in a nail-biting match that lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes. This win propels Noskova into her first WTA 1000 final, where she'll face Amanda Anisimova. After the match, Noskova praised Pegula's incredible performance, saying, “It was just two points away from a win or a loss. I'm just too happy that I would win.” Noskova's victory was marked by her resilience, particularly in the final set where she saved three match points and won the tiebreaker.

The semifinal match between Linda Noskova and Jessica Pegula was a high-intensity clash, with both players engaging in smart and physically demanding rallies that pushed each other to the limit. The deciding set was a nail-biter, with Pegula double-faulting on match point before the match went to a tiebreaker. Noskova ultimately emerged victorious, winning 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6) after 2 hours and 28 minutes.

Reflecting on her hard-fought victory, Noskova said, “It was quite a tough match mentally and physically and everything else, so I'm just gonna cherish this win.” This win marks a significant milestone for the 20-year-old, as she heads into the final against Amanda Anisimova seeking her second career title and first at the WTA 1000 level.
