Ancelotti's Brazil prepares for World Cup with friendly matches

Brazil's Carlo Ancelotti emphasizes player attitude over tactics ahead of World Cup. Brazil's road to the World Cup continues with a friendly match against Japan.

“I think more tactical work is needed to refine game strategy. All of this can be very important...”

Carlo Ancelotti emphasized that player attitude is more crucial than tactical strategy for Brazil's success. As the team prepares to face South Korea in a friendly match, Ancelotti highlighted the importance of team spirit and individual talent in overcoming challenges.

With limited preparation time after joining from Real Madrid in May, Ancelotti is focusing on maximizing the team's potential. He believes that the team's positive attitude and professionalism will be key to their success in the World Cup.

Ancelotti noted that tactical development has been hindered by a lack of training sessions with the full squad. Despite this, he expressed satisfaction with Brazil's defensive organization, particularly in June and September, where the team defended well.

Brazil will play friendly matches against South Korea and Japan, with Casemiro set to captain the team against Japan. Ancelotti's priority is to build a united team that can showcase its individual quality and achieve a record-extending sixth World Cup victory.

“I think more tactical work is needed to refine game strategy. All of this can be very important, but the most important part is not the strategy, it is the attitude of the players on the pitch. For that, it doesn't take much time to prepare,” Ancelotti told a press conference.

Carlo Ancelotti has experimented with two formations in his first four matches as Brazil's manager: a 4-2-4 system that brought wins over Paraguay and Chile, and a 4-3-3 setup used in a draw with Ecuador and a loss to Bolivia at high-altitude El Alto.

Despite inconsistent results, Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with Brazil's defensive organization, highlighting progress in this area as a positive note amidst the mixed outcomes.

“I really liked the team's defensive play in June and September. The team defended very well - compact, united, committed, intense,” Ancelotti said.

“Where the team needs to improve is with the ball in possession. The team has to show the individual quality it has, and we have a lot of it.

“You can play with four, three, or five in attack, but what matters is the quality shown on the pitch. What I really like is the team atmosphere. It's very positive because of the players' attitude and professionalism.”

Ancelotti emphasized that a united team is crucial for Brazil's quest to win a record-extending sixth World Cup. He believes that together, the team can achieve great things and overcome challenges on the path to success.

“Each of us thinks about the goal, which is very clear: we have to win the World Cup, not be the best player in the world. I want players who think they want to be in the World Cup to win, not to be the best,” he added.

Brazil is set to face Japan in a friendly match at Tokyo's Ajinomoto Stadium on October 14, 2025. The match is scheduled to kick off at 10:30 AM UTC, and the teams will compete in the International Friendly Games. This match is part of Brazil's preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
