Velocity Sports Partners, led by American businessman Alan Pace, has completed a majority takeover of LaLiga side Espanyol, ending Chinese conglomerate Rastar Group's nine-year ownership. The deal, valued at up to 200 million euros ($232.32 million), marks a significant move for the American owners of English Premier League club Burnley.
Alan Pace emphasized that both Espanyol and Burnley will retain their unique identities, leadership structures, and independence. “Burnley will remain Burnley. Espanyol will remain Espanyol,” he said, highlighting the commitment to preserving the clubs' individual legacies.
Pace outlined the philosophy behind the takeover, stating, “Football has always belonged to its people. Our role is not to replace legacy, but to build upon it, with care, with clarity, and with purpose. This is not about ownership; it's about stewardship.” The new ownership aims to invest in world-class academies and infrastructure to achieve long-term footballing success.
