Bayer Leverkusen secured a spot in the Bundesliga's top four with a 2-0 win over Freiburg at the BayArena. The victory marked the sixth consecutive unbeaten match between the two teams (W4, D2).
Despite being thrashed 7-2 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League midweek, Leverkusen showed resilience and composure against Freiburg, who were reduced to 10 men during the match.
Mark Flekken made a pair of impressive saves in the opening five minutes, denying Derry Scherhant and Junior Adamu. Christian Kofane headed wide for the home side, but Leverkusen gradually gained momentum.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Ernest Poku scored with a well-placed shot from distance, assisted by Aleix Garcia. Derry Scherhant's free-kick drifted just wide in response, but Freiburg remained in contention, given their history of scoring in each of the previous 10 meetings between the two teams.

Freiburg's hopes of a comeback were severely dented just seven minutes into the second half when Leverkusen doubled their lead. Alejandro Grimaldo delivered a pinpoint cross from the right, and Edmond Tapsoba headed home his first home league goal since January 2023.
Freiburg struggled to respond, and their plight worsened when Philipp Lienhart was sent off for a second yellow card offense, fouling an opponent on the right wing.
The 1-0 lead made things easier for Leverkusen, who extended their unbeaten Bundesliga run under Kasper Hjulmand to six matches, including four consecutive wins for the first time since January.
Freiburg, on the other hand, suffered their first loss in nine matches across all competitions, further solidifying their position in the bottom half of the table after failing to win in their last four Bundesliga games.
