Freiburg maintained their unbeaten streak, reaching eight games without defeat across all competitions, after securing a 2-0 victory over FC Utrecht in the UEFA Europa League at the Europa-Park Stadion.
The German side's impressive home record in the UEL continued, with this win marking their seventh consecutive triumph on home soil in the competition, whereas Utrecht's struggles persisted as they extended their winless run in European main-draw matches to 13 games.

Freiburg were the favorites and the first half unfolded accordingly. Philipp Treu hammered a shot over the bar early on, while Maximilian Eggestein became the first Freiburg player to trouble Vasilis Barkas, though the goalkeeper made a comfortable save.
There was nothing the Greek goalkeeper could do to prevent Freiburg from taking the lead midway through the half, as Yuito Suzuki scored his first goal for the club, firing into the corner from close range after Christian Gunter's cutback.
That left Utrecht with a mountain to climb after the restart, and while they were slightly more adventurous - not difficult considering they managed one shot before the interval - they remained toothless. Freiburg, meanwhile, were denied a third by Barkas, who pushed Eggestein’s shot to safety.
Ultimately, Freiburg picked up all three points without really exerting themselves in the final 30 minutes, having already done all the hard work beforehand. They now have seven points in this league phase and are well on their way to reaching the knockout stages.
Utrecht, meanwhile, are not only still without a point in this year’s competition, but have also not scored a single goal and have now won just one of their last eight in all tournaments. With high-flying AZ next up in the Eredivisie at the weekend, you would not expect their fortunes to improve in the near future.
