Paris Saint-Germain started their defence of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title with a scintillating display and 4-0 victory over Atalanta, ending La Dea’s eight-game unbeaten run in away games at this stage of the competition.
It took just three minutes for the reigning champions to get going, as Marquinhos ran up the pitch to pressurise Daniel Maldini and kept going once the ball had been won to provide the finish to Fabian Ruiz’s pass.
PSG applied intense pressure in the opening 10 minutes, with Nuno Mendes' shot being touched wide and Senny Mayulu's attempt being deflected behind for a corner. Bradley Barcola and Achraf Hakimi forced brilliant saves from Marco Carnesecchi, showcasing the French side's attacking prowess.
Atalanta had their first notable opportunity when Odilon Kossounou had a shot, but he ballooned it harmlessly over the crossbar. PSG continued to threaten, and it wasn't long before they had a goal disallowed due to a marginal offside call on Barcola after he was played through by Fabian Ruiz.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia broke open Atalanta's defense with a stunning individual effort, gliding towards the edge of the box and unleashing a powerful shot that flew past Marco Carnesecchi. PSG had another chance to double their lead shortly after, but Bradley Barcola's penalty kick was saved after Yunus Musah fouled Marquinhos.
Atalanta manager Ivan Juric attempted to turn the tide with a double substitution at halftime, but it was too late. PSG sealed their victory with a beautifully worked goal just six minutes into the second half. The move culminated with Nuno Mendes beating Marten de Roon and scoring with a precise shot from a tight angle, leaving Carnesecchi no chance.

PSG had a moment of concern when Joao Neves went off injured just before the hour mark, but Lucas Chevalier ensured their lead remained intact by stopping Nikola Krstovic's attempt. The French side continued to threaten Atalanta's goal, with Goncalo Ramos coming close to scoring after Isak Hien's lax pass.
However, it was Bellanova who ultimately paid the price for a tired backpass, as the striker capitalized on the error and dinked the ball over Marco Carnesecchi to seal the win for PSG with a calm finish.

The 4-0 scoreline accurately reflected PSG's dominance on the pitch, as they convincingly carried over their winning momentum from the UEFA Super Cup and Ligue 1 into the Champions League. By making a strong statement in their opening match, PSG demonstrated their determination to retain the title they won last year.
The victory also marked a significant result for Atalanta, as they suffered their first defeat of the campaign. Prior to this match, La Dea had recorded two draws and a win in Serie A, but PSG's dominant performance exposed their vulnerabilities and handed them a convincing loss.
