Sinner Fine-Tunes Game for Potential Alcaraz Showdown

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Tennis rivals Sinner and Alcaraz prepare for next clash

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz gear up for a potential Shanghai Masters showdown, with Sinner working on tactical tweaks to improve his game.

“It's getting better for me and for tennis. We'll see in the future how many times I'm going to play against...”

Jannik Sinner is working on refining his game after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final. The Italian tennis star, currently ranked world number two, believes that making small tweaks to his gameplay will help him challenge Alcaraz more effectively. Sinner lost the US Open final 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, handing over the top ranking to Alcaraz.

Sinner acknowledges that he needs to be more unpredictable to take on Alcaraz, his main rival. “We've been reflecting a lot on that final,” Sinner said, ahead of his China Open campaign in Beijing. He's confident that with time, he'll be able to implement the necessary changes in his matches. “We're working on new things and changing a lot of small things. The amount of mistakes at the moment is a little bit higher, but I hope that this recovers.”

Alcaraz, who now leads their head-to-head 10-5, expects Sinner to make adjustments to his game. “I know he's going to change something from the last match,” Alcaraz said. “It's the same thing that I did when I lost to him a couple of times. I tried to be a better player.” A potential rematch between the two tennis stars could happen at the Shanghai Masters next month.

Sinner's focus on improvement comes as Alcaraz sets his sights on bigger goals, aiming to be at the “same table as tennis legends.” Alcaraz has been dominating their rivalry, winning seven of their last eight matches. Sinner, however, remains motivated, saying, “I'm very motivated. It's great to work on something new, then we see how this ends up.”

“We've been reflecting a lot on that final,” Sinner said on Wednesday, ahead of his China Open campaign in Beijing.

“We're working on new things and changing a lot of small things. The amount of mistakes at the moment is a little bit higher, but I hope that this recovers.

“It's just a question of time. I don't know how much I'm able to (implement changes) on the actual match court because one thing is practice and one thing is match.

“I'm very motivated. It's great to work on something new, then we see how this ends up.”

Jannik Sinner is fine-tuning his game ahead of a potential showdown with Carlos Alcaraz at the Shanghai Masters next month. Meanwhile, Alcaraz is preparing for the Japan Open in Tokyo. Their rivalry continues to captivate tennis fans, especially after their epic battles in the French Open final and the US Open final earlier this month.

Alcaraz, who beat Sinner in the US Open final, has improved his head-to-head record to 10-5 against the Italian. However, Alcaraz believes Sinner will come back stronger in their next encounter. “I know he's going to change,” Alcaraz said. “He's going to change something from the last match. It's the same thing that I did when I lost to him a couple of times. I tried to be a better player. The next time I face him... I have to be focused and I have to be ready for the changes. I'll try to overcome those changes and be ready for that rivalry.”

Sinner, on the other hand, is working on making his game less predictable. After losing to Alcaraz in the US Open final, Sinner admitted he needs to be more unpredictable to become a better player against his main rival. "We've been reflecting a lot on that final," Sinner said. “It's getting better for me and for tennis. We'll see in the future how many times I'm going to play against him and in which circumstances we play. Right now it's going great.”

Alcaraz, who beat Sinner in the US Open final, has improved his head-to-head record to 10-5 against the Italian. However, Alcaraz believes Sinner will come back stronger in their next encounter. “I'm convinced he's going to change things tactically in our next match. I did it; I tried to be a better tennis player when I lost to him at Wimbledon, and I'm sure he'll do the same. I have to be very focused and ready to respond to his new approaches,” Alcaraz said.
