The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket's membership with immediate effect due to repeated breaches of its obligations as an ICC member. Despite this suspension, the US national teams will continue to participate in ICC events, including the T20 World Cup and preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The ICC cited several reasons for the suspension, including:
Failure to Implement a Functional Governance Structure: USA Cricket's inability to establish a proper governance framework.
Lack of Progress Toward USOPC Recognition: Insufficient progress toward achieving National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
Reputational Damage: Significant actions that have caused damage to cricket's reputation in the US and globally.
The suspension is aimed at protecting the long-term interests of the game, and the ICC has assured that athletes and the sport itself will not be impacted. A Normalization Committee will oversee the management and administration of USA national teams and work on reforms to restore USA Cricket's membership.
Path to Reinstatement:
Governance Reforms: USA Cricket must demonstrate specific changes to its governance structure and operations.
Operational Restructuring: The organization needs to undergo comprehensive reforms to meet ICC membership criteria.
USOPC Progress: USA Cricket must make tangible progress toward achieving National Governing Body status with the USOPC.
“The suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game,” the ICC said.
“The ICC's top priority remains ensuring that the athletes and the sport itself are not impacted due to the suspension.”

The ICC has suspended the membership status of USA Cricket with immediate effect.
Failure to implement a functional governance structure and significant actions that have caused reputational damage to cricket in the US and around the world, are among the reasons…
The International Cricket Council (ICC) had previously placed USA Cricket “on notice” at the 2024 ICC Annual General Meeting due to non-compliance with membership criteria. This warning gave USA Cricket 12 months to address governance issues, implement necessary reforms, and meet ICC standards. Unfortunately, the body failed to meet these requirements, leading to the ICC suspending its membership in September 2025.
Despite the suspension, the US national teams will continue to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
