Bangladesh eked out a thrilling four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup Super Four stage, thanks to half-centuries from Towhid Hridoy (58) and Saif Hassan (61). Chasing 169 runs, Bangladesh won with one ball to spare, finishing at 169/6 in 19.5 overs. Hridoy and Hassan's partnership was crucial, adding 54 runs for the third wicket and setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

Earlier, Dasun Shanaka's explosive 64 not out off 37 balls, featuring six sixes, helped Sri Lanka post 168/7 in 20 overs. Mustafizur Rahman was instrumental in restricting Sri Lanka's scoring, taking 3/20, including two wickets in the 19th over. Mahedi Hasan also chipped in with 2/25, bowling economically and applying pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen.

The match's thrilling finale saw Bangladesh needing five runs off the last six balls. Jaker Ali hit a four off Dasun Shanaka's first ball, but two wickets fell quickly, leaving Nasum Ahmed and Shamim Hossain to seal the win with a single run on the penultimate delivery. This win marks a significant turnaround for Bangladesh, who had lost to Sri Lanka in the group stage.

Bangladesh found themselves in a tense situation, needing 10 runs off the last 10 balls with seven wickets remaining. However, the game took an exciting turn when Towhid Hridoy was dismissed leg before by Dushmantha Chameera in the 19th over. Despite this setback, Bangladesh managed to stay in contention thanks to some crucial performances.

As the match reached its climax, Dasun Shanaka struck twice in the final over, keeping the pressure on Bangladesh. Nevertheless, tail-ender Nasum Ahmed showcased his agility and quick thinking, scampering a cheeky single to cover off the penultimate ball to guide Bangladesh to victory.

Bangladesh's bowlers did an excellent job restricting Sri Lanka to 168 for seven on a good batting track, setting the stage for a thrilling chase. Although Sri Lanka could have been bowled out for a much lower score, three dropped catches proved costly for the team. Fortunately for them, the missed chances didn't affect the outcome significantly, as Bangladesh's chase seemed relatively comfortable.

Saif Hassan electrified the start, capitalizing on the power play to score 61 off 45 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Towhid Hridoy built on Hassan's foundation, scoring 58 off 37 balls with four fours and two sixes. This partnership ensured Bangladesh didn't waste the opportunity created by their bowlers. Notably, Hridoy reached a milestone of 1000 T20 runs in this match, showcasing his growing prowess in the format.

Sri Lanka's bowling woes continued as they struggled with a shortage of specialist bowlers, forcing part-timers to fill in for four overs. Bangladesh capitalized on this weakness, ultimately securing a thrilling four-wicket win in the Asia Cup Super Four stage. Despite this setback, Sri Lanka's all-rounder Dunith Wellalage showed remarkable dedication by featuring in the match just hours after landing in Dubai from Colombo, where he had paid his last respects to his father, Suranga Wellalage, who passed away on Thursday.

Wellalage's father was honored before the match with a moment of silence, and the Sri Lankan team wore black armbands as a tribute. This emotional return to the team didn't seem to affect Wellalage's performance significantly, but the match itself was a nail-biter. Earlier, Dasun Shanaka had led from the front for Sri Lanka, top-scoring with 64 off 37 balls, his first half-century since January 2023.
