Matteo Berrettini Latest to Withdraw from US Open
Matteo Berrettini's injury woes continue as he pulls out of the US Open. Read more about his withdrawal and its impact on his season.
Matteo Berrettini, the former world number six, has withdrawn from the US Open due to ongoing injury issues. The Italian tennis player, currently ranked 59th, hasn't competed since his first-round loss at Wimbledon in June, where he was defeated by Kamil Majchrzak in five sets after recovering from an abdominal injury.
Berrettini's withdrawal from the US Open marks his seventh missed Grand Slam in the past four years, highlighting his ongoing struggles with injuries. He missed the French Open earlier this year due to a right oblique injury and has played only one match since May. American Brandon Holt will take Berrettini's place in the main draw.

Brandon Holt moves into the main draw. The main draw wild card previously awarded to Holt has now been awarded to Eliot Spizzirri.
Berrettini's absence will undoubtedly be felt, given his past success in the US Open. In 2019, he reached the semifinals, where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. With a strong record at Flushing Meadows, Berrettini's withdrawal opens up opportunities for other players.
The US Open 2025 will kick off on August 24, featuring top players from around the world. The tournament will run until September 7, with the men's final scheduled for September 7. Holt, who has shown promise in recent matches, including a win against Abdullah Shelbayh in the US Open last year, will look to make a mark in the tournament.
