The nine-time African champions, Nigeria, boasted a strong head-to-head record against Zambia, but Barbra Banda's presence posed a threat. However, it was the Super Falcons who struck first, with Osinachi Ohale powering a header past Petronella Musole just two minutes in, courtesy of Esther Okoronkwo's pinpoint free-kick.
Esther Okoronkwo struck again in the 33rd minute, doubling Nigeria's lead with a clinical finish into the bottom corner, leaving the Zambian goalkeeper with no chance. The first half was a goal-fest, and the Copper Queens were reeling when Chinwendu Ihezuo pounced on a loose ball in the box, calmly slotting home a left-footed finish that all but sealed the win for the Super Falcons.
Oluwatosin Demehin further cemented Nigeria's dominance with a fourth goal in the 68th minute. The rout was completed by substitute Folashade Ijamilusi, who capitalized on a brilliant assist from Rasheedat Ajibade to seal a convincing 5-0 victory for the Super Falcons.
