Palmeiras' Estevao scores a stunning equalizer in his emotional farewell match against Chelsea in the Club World Cup. Read more about his tribute to the team.

Teenage sensation Estevao bid a tearful farewell to Palmeiras following their 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup quarterfinals. The 18-year-old winger, set to join Chelsea, scored a breathtaking equalizer but couldn't prevent the Brazilian club's exit. A late own goal ultimately sealed Palmeiras' fate, leaving Estevao heartbroken.

Estevao's 53rd-minute goal showcased his immense talent, leaving a lasting impression. He skillfully picked up the ball on the right side of the box, beat Chelsea's Levi Colwill, and unleashed a powerful shot from a tight angle that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar, highlighting the impact of his departure on Palmeiras.

“Unfortunately, it wasn't the result we wanted, but I think it's okay. We gave our all on the pitch, and that's what matters.”

Estevao expressed heartfelt gratitude to Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira, referring to him as “a father figure” who played a significant role in his development as a player. “Coach, thank you very much for everything,” Estevao said. “He taught me to play tactically, and that was very important for me. Palmeiras opened doors for me, and I was very happy here.”

“My family and I are so grateful to the club, to Abel, and to my team mates for everything they did for me. I will carry Palmeiras in my heart forever.”

Estevao's performance against Chelsea was bittersweet, showcasing his exceptional talent with a goal while also marking the end of his Palmeiras chapter with a defeat. In contrast, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca's emotions were more straightforward, focused on the win that propelled his team forward.

“Happy because we won, happy because he scored, so it's a perfect night,” he said.
