Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a two-year contract extension with Al Nassr, keeping him at the Saudi Pro League club until 2027. The 40-year-old Portuguese forward's deal was announced by the club on Thursday, ending months of speculation about his future. Ronaldo expressed his commitment to the team, saying, “A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let's make history together.”
This decision comes after Ronaldo sparked uncertainty about his future when he announced the "chapter is over" at the end of the Saudi season last month. There were rumors of potential short-term contracts with teams competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, but he ultimately chose to stay with Al Nassr.
The new contract will see Ronaldo continue to play at a high level, potentially until he's 42, giving him ample opportunity to add to his record-breaking career. With 956 career goals, Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time.

Al Nassr teased Ronaldo's contract extension with a video featuring the star walking along a beachfront, saying “Al Nassr forever.” The official announcement followed shortly, confirming Ronaldo's two-year deal with the club. Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 2023, becoming one of several top players to move to Saudi Arabia in recent times.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently sparked speculation about leaving Al Nassr after posting “This chapter is over” following the Saudi Pro League season, which saw his team finish third without a trophy. However, with his new two-year contract extension, those rumors have been put to rest, confirming his commitment to the club until 2027.
A source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) highlighted Ronaldo's significant impact on the Saudi league, saying, “Ronaldo's presence is a key factor in developing the Saudi league in the last two years and a half. He opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia.” The PIF, a major investor in Saudi football, controls several prominent Pro League clubs, including Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli. Ronaldo's contract extension is expected to further boost the league's profile.
Despite being the Saudi Pro League's top scorer last season with 25 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to win a trophy with Al Nassr. The team recently fell short in the Asian Champions League semi-finals, continuing their trophyless run.
Saudi Arabia has shaken up football by spending heavily on stars from Europe, starting with Ronaldo's move in late 2022, and the desert nation will host the World Cup in 2034.
For the past two years, Saudi football fans could watch the likes of Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, with six Ballons d'Or between them, on any given weekend during the football season in the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia's football project, fueled by oil wealth, has drawn comparisons to China's Super League, which saw big-name players and hefty salaries until financial troubles hit. However, with the 2034 World Cup on the horizon, Saudi Arabia is pushing to rebrand itself as a hub for tourism and business, potentially paving the way for further growth in the Pro League.
