Taiwo Awoniyi's Recovery: Nuno Espirito Santo Shares Update

Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi undergoes surgery for abdominal injury; manager Nuno Espirito Santo shares positive update on his recovery.

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has reported a positive outlook for striker Taiwo Awoniyi following urgent surgery for an abdominal injury. Awoniyi, 27, was hospitalized after colliding with a post during a match against Leicester.

The Nigerian forward was placed in an induced coma, but Nuno expressed optimism about his recovery prospects.

“He went to surgery, surgery went well, thank God,” Nuno said.

“He is under observation now, but he is recovering. We still have to wait for the doctors to allow visits.

“We are concerned, but it is positive. It has been very difficult because of the concern of the injury, the situation he went through.

“It's been very difficult, very difficult on us and on everybody, the concern of the injury that he had, the situation that he entered through, it's been hard on us.”

The 2-2 draw with Leicester has left Nottingham Forest seventh in the table ahead of their match against West Ham on Sunday. With two games remaining, Forest have already secured a European competition spot, but their chances of reaching the top five, which would secure Champions League football, appear slim.
